Lighthouse Learning Center intern program:

The objectives of the internship program are to:

  • Assist the intern in developing a clear and concise knowledge of his/her chosen occupation.
  • Assist the intern in developing the skills and knowledge, which will enable the intern to develop and implement programs.
  • Assist the intern in preparing for graduate study.
  • Help the intern to further his/her study.
  • Give guidance to the intern in as many different functions as is possible pertinent to the field of study.

position:
Computer Center Program Intern
time requirement:
3-10 hrs/week
scheduled between M-Th, 3-7pm
responsibilities:
Assist in the computer lab with Children's and Teen's programs. Maintain check-in desk, log students progress, train students to use software and basic applications.
position:
Children's Center Intern (1st-6th grades)
time requirement:
8 hrs/week
scheduled between M-Th, 3-7pm
responsibilities:
Assist children with homework, training of volunteers, conduct Home Visit of students to assess and assist with family relations, make and maintain contact with our students home schools, help to plan Special Events (field trips), some administrative paperwork, lead small groups as need arises (topics: alcohol & drug abuse, family relations, etc.). Community is predominately Hispanic families. Being fluent in Spanish in not a requirement but, would be a plus.

Administrative Intern
time requirement:
8-10 hrs/week
scheduled between M-F, 9:30-5:30pm.
Hours would be divided between 2 separate locations for the Minnie Street Learning Center.
responsibilities:
Assist Administrative Coordinator with orientation of new volunteers, paperwork, data entry, recruit community business for donation, research community resources.

H.E.R.O. Academy Intern (Teen Center)
time requirement:
8 hrs/week
scheduled between M-Th, 2-7pm.
responsibilities:
H.E.R.O. (Honor, Education, Responsibility, Opportunity) is an early college preparation program fostering leadership, respect, excellence, and responsibility. Assistant would work closely with Teen Coordinator/HERO Program Director to provide experiential learning for students in educational topics related to college preparation and academic excellence. Conduct Home Visits of 40 students to assess and assist with family relations, make and maintain contact with our students home schools, some administrative paperwork, prepare agenda & facilitate Parent Meetings, lead teen small groups, plan and facilitate educational and other field trips. Community is predominately Hispanic families. Being fluent in Spanish in not a requirement but, would be a plus.

Youth Group Intern (Compadre Group)
time requirement:
8 hrs/month
responsibilities:
Assistant would work with Teen Coordinator to develop and distribute curriculum to all youth group mentors. Assistant would also work with youth and mentors during our Wednesday youth group meeting. Great hands on for people in Youth Ministry, Psychology, Sociology, or Biblical studies.

College of Parents-Family Liaison
time requirement:
7-8 hrs/month
responsibilities:
As part of our H.E.R.O. program, we provide monthly parent classes for parents of adolescents topics related to the educational system, communication, discipline, and such. Family liaisons would work with families, encouraging them to attend classes, assist instructors, and provide information and resources for families.
