The
Minnie Street neighborhood in Santa Ana is considered to be one
of the most densely populated areas in the United States. Approximately
eighty percent (80%) of the residents are Hispanic and twenty percent
(20%) are Cambodian. Historically Minnie Street has been known for
its high crime rate, devastating poverty, and a High School drop
out rate of roughly eighty percent (80%). However, just recently,
progress is being made. The residents are taking action. The Lighthouse Learning Center is the result of months of research and discussions
between the community and Mariners Church. The center is the first
step in helping the people of Minnie Street realize their dreams
and hopes for the future.
